Re: The Little Drummer Girl
The book’s pretty good if you can get past the fairly implausible concept at the heart of it. I had to really concentrate to follow it though, which I find is standard for most of John Le Carre’s stuff. The TV series is pretty faithful to the book so far.

Liked the book, not sure about this BBC version but one thing is for sure, it must be bloody cold where they filmed this. Never seen a womxn look so nippy on TV!

Re: The Little Drummer Girl
really lovely shooting
locations look good
nice soft furnishings

story is a little convoluted - but i'm sticking with it - i'm intrigued, although, yes it is slightly laboured

Re: The Little Drummer Girl
Fair enough, Leroy. Horses for courses, I guess!

Without wanting to sound pretentious, I trained as a classical actor 30 odd years ago and diction was drilled into you on a daily basis. I'd do lip and tongue exercises every day, often getting strange looks on the bus.

Since Unis have become a business many drama schools have had to switch to a degree course instead of a vocational one, for the students to qualify for a loan - and this is the reason why the quality of the British actor's voice and diction has declined - which is a massive shame as it was that training that made Brit actors a cut above the rest.

Its a poor competitor compared to Scandi Noir or other European top dramas....I think Luther and Line of Duty do better as seen with their International success

Re: The Little Drummer Girl
The story line looks dated to me, probably because there have been some excellent contemporary TV/film dramas covering this subject since the book was originally written.

Tortuous pretentious crap, just about any of the stuff on Walter Presents is better

I have no doubt, in this instance though I'd rather watch one of the million other half watched Netflix or Prime series I have on the go !

Re: The Little Drummer Girl
Mumbling in modern drama in general is a nuisance and I'm not convinced it's the fault of incidental music or sound quality.

Watching Line of Duty on Netflix currently and Thandie Newton is fully intelligible at all times because of her impeccable diction. But I've turned on the subtitles because of the general mongy mumbling of other actors.

Your opinion, of course Leroy, but she's one of the most exciting talents we have at the moment and at just 22 will have a fantastic career ahead of her.

Oh ...and I would if she asked nicely.

Re: The Little Drummer Girl
She's better than Diane Keeton in the film version. She is playing a shallow person who is playing at left wing politics until she is picked up by Mossad. She's meant to be annoying at that part of the plot

Michael Shannon played Richard Kuklinski in The Iceman.
Keep waiting for him to eliminate everyone

Agree that Le Carre needs a miniseries length
Compare Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy as the tv classic to the movie.
